Kenny

Kenny learned to play the guitar and sing in church at an early age. He began playing banjo and mandolin shortly thereafter. His main musical influences are Carter Stanley and Doyle Lawson for their songwriting and arrangement abilities, as well as strong lead vocals. Kenny is a Forestry Equipment tech. with the Va Dept of Forestry and loves spending time with his wife Tammy, son Brady and working on his 1965 Mustang.

I started playing guitar at age 13. My older brother Randy played acoustic guitar. I looked up to him, so I wanted to play like him. He taught me chords and rhythm. I have many musical influences. Our house was full of music. Dad listened to Jimmy Martin & Tennessee Ernie Ford. Mom listened to southern gospel groups, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Chet Atkins. Randy listened to southern rock & blues. I picked up the dobro 2 years ago because of its sweet tone and blues background.  I look forward to seeing you next time we play.  - - Tracy

When I was a child I thought that there were only three singers in the world:  Elvis Presley and Jim & Jessee. After I grew up a little bit I started playing the piano because my hand was too small to reach around a guitar.  My father, Tracy, would pick his guitar and sing for hours on end and try to show me where to put my fingers in order to make a chord, but I  was a slow learner.

It wasn’t until college that his teaching started to take hold, and I could  pass myself off as a musician.  I listened to David Allan Coe, Waylon  Jennings, and Johnny Cash, but it wasn’t until I started to really pay attention to Jim & Jessee that I found a voice that I could grab on to.  I  try to emulate Jim McReynolds when I sing, because to me there was
none  better.  If you like our music, then be sure to pick up an old Jim & Jessee  record. They were the masters.  I just want to carry on in their
tradition.
